PaceOPS Workflow

Skill Polish: PROTECT

When you work with chemicals on a daily basis, it is easy to forget just how harmful these products can be if not used properly. Protect yourself and others by following these guidelines:

The Do’s and Don’ts of Chemical Use:

  • Do: Ensure all labels/instructions are read and followed.
  • Do: Store chemicals below eye level.
  • Do: Always use personal protective equipment (gloves and protective eye wear) when handling chemicals.
  • Do: Review MSDS for use, spill, storage and first aid procedures.
  • Do: Keep flammable chemicals from heat and ignition sources.
  • Do: Set your nozzle to spray in droplets rather than a fine mist to protect you from inhaling the chemical.
  • Do NOT: Dilute chemicals without supervisor approval or proper training.
  • Do NOT: Use materials brought from home.
  • Do NOT: Mix different types of chemicals!
