Eric Luke | Varsity Facility Services | President & CEO
Eric Luke has been Varsity Facility Services’ Chief Executive Officer and President since the beginning of 2011. He is responsible for all acquisitions and mergers, the strategic and tactical direction of the company, as well as all sales, operational and financial aspects of Varsity Contractors, Inc., / Varsity Facility Services and its subsidiaries, Nuvek (a software company) and System 1 (a janitorial minority company). He directs and supports Varsity’s executive team in improving Varsity’s risk management, operational effectiveness, growth, profitability and customer satisfaction, developing and maintaining key customer relationships with national accounts.
In his role as CEO and President, Eric streamlined the company making it flatter and more responsive to customer needs, increasing the company’s profitability by nearly 100% the first year, achieving 6% growth. He has led the charge to improve safety company-wide, resulting in an improvement in the company’s safety “mod” rate from 1.38 down to 1. Also in his first year he secured the renewal of our top 5 customer contracts.
He has organized the company in distinct geographical regions to provide better support and coverage for Varsity’s national accounts. He has directed Varsity’s re-certification as a “quality” and “green” company through ISSA’s CIMS and CIMS-GB certification respectively. His continued focus on customer retention, growth, safety and the environment has made Varsity a more sustainable company and enabled Varsity to do the same for its customers.
Eric is engaged in the industry, serving twice on the prestigious Board of Directors for the industry’s Building Service Contractors Association International (BSCAI), serving for 3 years as its Executive Director. He has also received its designation as a Certified Building Services Executive (CBSE), recognized as well by The Worldwide Cleaning Industry Association, ISSA.
Prior to his current position, Eric served as Varsity’s Senior Vice President for 12 years, managing 70% of the company business, facilitating the company’s growth to $250 million/year. He was responsible for Varsity’s largest national accounts and divisions.
He was a key leader in the development and founding of System 1, a $12 million/year M/WBA company for which Varsity is a minority owner and mentor.
He accepted the risky assignment to start a construction and mall property management division. With some vision and fortuitous good luck, he was able to hire two key individuals (Robert Rayl and Jim Wherley) and together they tripled the size of Varsity within 5 years.
Before joining Varsity, Eric was a senior accountant and consultant for Arthur Andersen in San Francisco. In 1989, Varsity hired Eric as a District Manager over the Colorado operations. Eric took the lead in selling the concept of a facility management company to service Qwest’s 2,500 facilities to top Qwest executives. As a result, four years after joining Varsity, he was promoted to the position of Regional Manager in Varsity’s Qwest Facility Management Division.
Shortly thereafter, in 1993, Eric was instrumental in the formation of the NSC (Network Services Company) partnership and became its General Manager. He is now a Managing Partner of NSC, which is now a $30 million/year national property management company jointly owned by Varsity Facility Services and FBG Services, with operations through most of America, serving 3,000 Century Link (formerly Qwest) facilities.
Eric is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the AICAP and the Colorado Association of Public Accountants. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Brigham Young University graduating Magna Cum Laude. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, for Business graduates who finish in the top 2% of their graduating class.
An accomplished archer and avid outdoorsman, Eric is a passionate big game hunter and fly fisherman. He loves golfing with his kids, customers and his Varsity friends. He also enjoys singing, playing piano, and coin collecting.
He and his high school sweetheart and wife of 29 years, Kathy Jean Hansen, are proud parents of 5 wonderful children and one grandchild.
