Varsity Facility Services personnel gathered at Idaho Food Bank in Pocatello to serve their community, preparing bags of food for the Food Bank’s Backpack Program.
From the Idaho Food Bank website: “During the school year, many low-income children have access to nutritious meals through their school’s free-and-reduced breakfast and lunch program. Unfortunately, on the weekends these same children go without food. Our Backpack program helps these children by providing weekend food support throughout the school year.”
Thank you to all the Varsity personnel who helped and thank you, especially, to The Idaho Food Bank for all you do for our community.
Below are quotes from some of our Varsity folks and some photos of the day of service:
Varsity helped prepare weekend backpacks for children, making sure they have breakfast, lunch and dinner over the weekend. We also sorted donated food into boxes making it easier for the Foodbank to distribute food. It was great to see the teamwork Varsity has for our Community. ~Glenda Hall
Putting together the food backpacks for elementary school age children was a wonderful opportunity to provide service to those who truly have no control over their environmental circumstances. Great service project for a great cause!!! ~Rob Elison
Having the chance to give back to the community is such a rewarding experience. We’ve had a wonderful time on past service projects but there is something special about the Idaho Foodbank backpack program. Knowing that each backpack we put together would go to feed a hungry child who would otherwise go without is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. I am so grateful that Varsity provides such wonderful opportunities to serve our community. It is very easy to get caught up in our own lives, but service to others provides perspective, and reminds us to be generous, and grateful, and to be kind as often as possible. ~Heather Ann Mihlfeith
Over the last couple of years I have watched my children’s friends wait around school on Friday afternoon so they could get their “backpack stuffed”. My children had explained to me that they were getting food to last them for the weekend. It was good for me to see exactly what these children were getting and exactly what this program entailed. For me this was a very humbling experience. ~Jacque Younis
I was saddened to learn that in our wonderful community that there are over 500 kids are going home hungry on the weekends. I knew this was a problem in the nation but to hear the numbers in our own town was heartbreaking! The opportunity to give back and be a part of something as amazing as the Idaho Food Banks’ backpack program was phenomenal. I am making a point to continue to volunteer and involve my family so we too can make a difference and hopefully bring food to more in need. I am thankful to work for such a great company that has such an emphasis on helping others and allowing us to volunteer as a team! ~Taysha Felton
I always look forward to our Idaho Food Bank Service Project every year. It’s great to give back to the community, and we have so much fun working together!” ~Kristi Curtis
